The date for the establishment of St. Silas School has not as yet been ascertained. What is known is the school was founded by St. Silas Anglican Church and was first erected on Baywoods Hill. After being destroyed by a hurricane, a new school was erected in Orange Hill, St. James in 1926, where The Learning Centre now resides. This school however was for the education of boys. The Principals for the Boys' School were Mr. Oliver Walcott and Mr. James Crick.
A second school was erected some time later a short distance from the boys' school. This was for the education of girls and became known as St. Silas Girls' School. Principals for the girls' school were Ms. Alleyne and Ms. Alma Parris.
In the 1960's the two schools were amalgamated to become a co-educational institution. The St. Silas Boys' School then became known as St. Silas Junior School, educating students from age five to nine years. The St. Silas Girls' School became the St. Silas Senior School and catered to students from age nine to sixteen.
The early 1990's brought about another change. The Junior School moved from its present location while the Senior School was phased out. Once again the school's name was changed to St. Silas Primary School. The acting Principal at that time wa Mrs. Eunice Springer-Roach. Other Principals over the years wre Mrs. Dina Salankey, Mrs. M. Williams, Mrs. Carmen Murray, Ms. Lorna Bynoe and Ms. Eugene Eastmond.
Order. Learning. Politeness.
