As far research has shown, the earliest accounts of education in the St. Jude’s district date back to the period between 1860 to 1865 when there were two schools serving the area: The St. Jude’s Mixed School and The St. Jude’s Infant School. These schools were the property of The St. Jude’s Anglican Church.
About 1870, a new building was erected on lands of St. Jude’s Church and functioned as the St. Jude’s Combined School. This new school provided education for all Senior Pupils while the older units were used as Infants’ Schools.
In 1882 the schools were re-organized. The Mixed Primary School became the St. Jude’s Boys’ School and the Infants’ School became the St. Jude’s Girls’ School. The school continued to function as separate units until 1955 when they were amalgamated under the name of The St. Jude’s Mixed School with Mr. Clyde Barrow as the Headmaster.
The Infants were instructed at the former Girls’ School while the Juniors were housed at the former Boys’ School. A block for Seniors was erected on lands of the Boys’ School and the eastern block of the same site was erected in 1965. The Seniors were removed from the school in 1983 and the school had since then been functioning as a Primary School which is now known as the St. Jude’s Primary School.
Nothing's Gained Without Hard Work.
To use all available human and technological resources to teach, train and develop each child's ability in skills, knowledge and attitudes to the fullest, through a dynamic curriculum, so that he/she may become a useful, productive and honourable citizen.
We come to these walls each day,
To learn how to tread life's paths;
Our aim is to work hard no matter our plight,
Success is our beaconing plight.
So today let's strive hard,
That tomorrow we'll see
The worth of our motto we often proclaim
Nothing's gained without hard work.
Let's think of our future now
So school days be past and gone;
If our time I wasted our doom is but sure,
So our destiny let's secure.
