The Bay Primary School had its origins in the Bay Street Boys School which was started in October 1913. It emerged out of the amalgamation of four (4) small schools, namely St. Ambrose Boys', St. Paul's Boys', Dalkeith Boys' and Bethel Boys'.

On January 13, 1958 the school was opened at its present location - Bay Gardens, Bayland now Bayville, St. Michael. The building was originally constructed at the headquarters of the now defunct Federal Government of the West Indies. It was renamed the Bay Primary Boys School. Mr. S. O. Lorde was now Principal having commenced as Principal in January 1956.

On September 8, 1975 the school became a coeducational institution and was named Bay Primary School.

On September 10, 1984 the Bay Vocational Centre was integrated into the school which then became known as The Bay Composite School.

In the 1990's the school reverted to primary status hence the present name Bay Primary School.
