The Wilkie Cumberbatch Primary School, formerly New Pine Primary, is situated at Lascelles Terrace, Pinelands, St. Michael and is approximately two kilometres from Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados. It was built to relieve the overcrowding at the then Pine Primary School that is located at ST. Barnabas, St. Michael.
On September 19, 1966 the school was officially opened and catered to three hundred and forty (340) pupils. The staff then comprised of a Principal (Acting), Ms. Glendene Thompson, ten (10) teachers, a janitor and a watchman.
A name change occurred in 1975 in honor of Mr. Charles Wilkinson Cumberbatch who was a former principal of St. Giles Boys' School and later served as an Education Officer in the Ministry of Education.
We Presevere. We Succeed. For Life We Work.
The mission of Wilkie Cumberbatch Primary School is to provide the highest quality education by creating a teaching/learning environment whereby students can maximise their potential using all available resources and thereby leading to responsible citizens in an ever-changing society.
We build our school on Thee O Lord,
To Thee we bring our common need.
The loving heart, the loving word,
The tender thought, the kindly deed,
With these we pray Thy spirit may
Enrich and bless our school alway.
We work together in thy sight,
We live together in thy love,
Guide Thou our faltering steps aright,
And lift our thoughts to heaven above,
Dear Lord, we pray Thy spirit may
Be present in our school way.
Hold Thou each hand to keep it just,
Touch Thou our lips and keep them pure,
If Thou art with us Lord we must,
Be faithful friends and comrades sure,
Dear Lord, we pray Thy spirit may
Be present in our school alway.
We change, but Thou art still the same,
The same good master, teacher, friend,
We change but Lord we bear Thy name,
To journey with it to the end,
And so, we pray Thy spirit may
Enrich and bless our school alway.
