About Us

The St. Margaret's School comprised of two separate buildings which were originally the St. Margaret's Boys' School and the St. Margaret's Girls' School. The Boys' School, built in the form of a cross, was erected in 1863 with funds provided by the munificence of the Hon. A. J. Haynes of Newcastle, St. John. It was known as the church school and adjoined the St. Margaret's Church which a year earlier had been founded by the same benefactor. He was responsible for and supervised the management of these schools as was the custom in those days.

It was about three years later that the Girls' School was erected on a slight eminence north west of the church. This was a two-storey building; the lower part of which was constructed of stone and the upper part of wood. At first, the lower part of the building was used as a stable to house the horses of those church goers who travelled to church by buggies.

The attendances of the two schools were fairly low, i.e. about 120 students. As it was uneconomical to run both schools, the decision was made to amalgamate the school. The amalgamation was successfully carried out in May 1948 with Mr. G. Alleyne becoming the first Headmaster of the combined school which was then known as the St. Margaret's Mixed School.

School Song

Hail St. Margaret's, we salute thee
Set in lush serenity,
Vegetation, breezes and waves,
Joining our school family,
Perfect setting for study each day,
Help us to learn how God's will may prevail.

May your tranquil surroundings
Teach us the Saviour's love.
May we see in the textbook of nature
Lessons of His peace above.
May we, in all we do and say,
"Act so that the will of God may prevail."

Chorus
St. Margaret's we salute you,
Alma Mater of our early years,
By far the best we respect you
Teach us how God's will may prevail.

Many of our school children, they would gladly trade,
A life of burden and hardship
Just for any school day.
Dear parents and teachers
Let's work hard each day,
By our actions we'll show how God's will may prevail.

Diligence and Integrity
Are virtues we'll cherish from thee,
As we uphold the morals and ideals of CSME.
At the end of our stay, we fervently pray,
For the rest of our lives
That God's will may prevail.
